Fetisov has responded to criticism of the performance of sportsmen in the state Duma

The double Olympic champion on hockey, the Deputy of the state Duma Vyacheslav Fetisov has commented on the idea to prohibit athletes to become MPs. His words are quoted by the radio station “Moscow Says”.

“The athlete is different from another citizen of our country? He was elected, has the opportunity to defend his position in the state Duma. He who can forbid, especially by law? It’s kind of stupid. There are different members that are active, useful, are inactive and useless. It all depends on their civil position,” — said Fetisov.

The Deputy noted that he was elected and competed with people of different professions and of different ages. “I won. What does this have to do with the doping? This is generally a stupid story,” he added.

Earlier, on 5 November, four-time Olympic champion in biathlon Alexander Tikhonov expressed the view that athletes should not become MPs after his career. “Mind your own business! There is nothing butt to sit”, — he said.

Among those working in the state Duma are Olympic Champions Vladislav Tretyak, Vyacheslav Fetisov, Irina Rodnina, Alexander Karelin, Svetlana Zhurova and Svetlana Khorkina.
